the holland hotel
alpine, texas

“No one enterprise in this part of Texas has given to this city, and to this part of the Southwest, more favorable publicity nationally than has the Holland Hotel.”

— Marfa New Era, 1924

The Holland Hotel was built in 1928 by famed architect Henry Trost as a testament to the burgeoning prosperity of Alpine, Texas. Located on the Sunset Limited train line connecting Los Angeles to New Orleans, Alpine has a rich history as a gathering place for ranchers and tradesmen in the high desert plains of the American Southwest.

Byways Hospitality completed the purchase of the Holland in 2024, and plan to begin a historic restoration to the rooms and infamous lobby, often referred to as the “living room of Alpine”, in the coming months.

Financing: CPACE, Historic Tax Credits
